THE STORY
Objective
After successfully completing Bamboo’s offices in Royal Oak and Detroit, Rightsize Facility collaborated on their Ann Arbor location, a 25,000-square-foot project combining three historic buildings from 1925. Synecdoche, the award-winning architectural firm behind the design, envisioned a transformation that preserved the buildings’ historic charm while creating a cohesive and functional coworking environment. The project also included a complete renovation of the basement into coworking and conference areas, along with vibrant outdoor seating to enhance the workspace experience.
Design Solution
Led by Synecdoche, the design approach integrated sustainable elements like repurposed furniture and carefully balanced modern functionality with the buildings’ historical integrity. The reimagined basement provided a dynamic coworking and conference hub, expanding the usability of the space while maintaining a cohesive connection to the rest of the property. Outdoor seating areas were thoughtfully designed to encourage community engagement and provide a seamless extension of the workspace. Rightsize Facility supported the project’s implementation, ensuring the design vision was brought to life efficiently and effectively.
Desired Outcome
The project aimed to deliver a coworking space that reflected Bamboo’s growth and innovative spirit while honoring the historical significance of the property. By focusing on coworking functionality, the space was designed to support flexible and collaborative use, catering to the needs of modern professionals. The partnership between Synecdoche’s visionary design and Rightsize Facility’s execution expertise resulted in a vibrant, cohesive environment that promotes productivity, adaptability, and a sense of community. This transformation sets a new standard for adaptive reuse in the coworking sector.
