Dodge for Detroit, sponsored by Boy Scouts of America and Great Lakes Field Service Council, is an exciting new event that has gained a lot of popularity in recent years. It is expected to become one of the most competitive and exciting fundraisers in the city. Apart from attracting some of the leading businesses and organizations in the region, Dodge for Detroit is attended by a variety of local media, sports, and business personalities.
The aim of Dodge for Detroit is to provide necessary funding for various programs in the city that provide leadership skills, character development, and help to foster lifelong values in more than 4,000 of the most disadvantaged youth in the city. All proceeds support the mission of the Boy Scouts of America and each year that money sends nearly 250 kids through a calendar year program at no cost to their families.
The Fifth Annual Dodge For Detroit took place on Thursday, August 1, 2019, in Cadillac Square – right in the heart of the city. Rightsize Detroit pitched in to sponsor the event once again, having won the first-place trophy in 2018 and excited to defend their title.
The event presents an incredible opportunity to bring coworkers and friends together for a fun and exhilarating round-robin dodgeball tournament in the city! The 64 co-ed teams are made up of 6 to 10 players and each plays a minimum of three games. This fundraiser is not a typical gala; rather, it is an impactful, inspirational, and powerful event that helps build relationships, raises funds for a noble cause, and changes lives in the process.
For those that aren’t keen on dodging balls, there are plenty of other opportunities to enjoy the evening. Attendees do not have to play in order to show their support. So, if you are not interested in fielding a team, you can just sit back, relax and cheer on your favorites. And, if you are a food lover, you are in for a treat as Dodge For Detroit features some of the best drinks, entertainment and food that Metro Detroit has to offer.
This year, hundreds of attendees cheered on the players while playing games, enjoying refreshments, networking and dancing in a fun and festive happy hour environment. Rightsize managed to bring home the championship for the second year in a row, which is a source of great pride for the team.
“I am ecstatic that we were able to participate, again, in support of a great cause. Team Rightsize won the first-place trophy twice in a row, which was no small feat! There were some really great teams out there and everyone gave it their all.” said Nick Weise, VP/Principal, Rightsize Facility. “This second consecutive win shows what our team can accomplish when we come together with a common goal. We’re a competitive bunch and strive for excellence, both on and off the court. We also strongly believe in the potential of every young person, no matter who they are, where they’re from or what they have been through. We will continue to give back and do everything we can to bring out the best in Detroit’s youth.”
